Busking code of practice update
- Thu 07 March, 2013
Following last month’s update, Dublin City Council is now in the process of drafting bye-law recommendations for the Arts, Culture & Leisure Committee to tackle the issue of on-street busking.
It was agreed that regulation through bye-laws was necessary and that the Code of Practice, although well-intentioned, had not been successful. 185 performers signed up to the code; however, 15-20 problematic performers remained unwilling to sign. This is in line with reports received by Dublin City BID from our members.
For new bye-laws to be adopted a motion will have to be put forward to the City Councillors, who will then vote for or against the adoption of bye-laws. We would encourage any businesses affected by loud or problematic busking to lobby their local councilors about the issue. The relevant Councillors who sit on the Arts, Culture & Leisure Committee can be contacted through this contact list.
