Dublin City Centre is a magical place at Christmas time and this festive season is going to be especially magical with the addition of exciting traditional Christmas Markets being held in the city centre, subject to approval. The markets will offer a unique selection of quality Irish made handcrafted gift items, including accessories, woodcrafts, jams and preserves and prints as well as seasonal food and drinks to include charcoal grills, crepes, bratwurst, chocolate fountain, Gluhwein as well as other seasonal non-alcoholic drinks.
With a variety of festive events taking place during the weeks running up to Christmas, from the switching on the lights ceremonies across the city to the peoples’ favourite Geansaí Nollaig record breaking challenge on O’Connell Street, there is something in our magical city for everyone to enjoy! The website DublinatChristmas.ie will have all the information about the festivities taking place in Dublin City Centre this Christmas, including shopping, eateries, family events, celebrations, the New Year’s Festival in Dublin and much more.
It’s not officially the Christmas season until the lights are switched on in Dublin and you can be sure to find some of the most spectacular Christmas lights in Ireland this festive season right in the city centre. Shoppers can celebrate the start of Christmas beneath the festive glow when the businesses in the City Centre bring over 30 streets alive with the magic of Christmas!

Dublin’s Lord Mayor, Christy Burke said: “Christmas is a magical time, especially for children and I am delighted to be involved in the launch of the programme of events for this Christmas season. As Lord Mayor I want to invite everyone to visit the city centre on the 30th November to join me in the lighting-up ceremony in O’Connell Street. I hope to see crowds here on the day and I encourage families to visit the city centre over the Christmas period to experience the unique atmosphere that Christmas in Dublin offers. There really is nowhere else quite like it at Christmas time. I congratulate Dublin City Council on once again running a parking promotion, details of which are upcoming on the Council website or keep an eye on dublinatchristmas.ie for details of all events.”
DublinTown CEO Richard Guiney said: “There is no place quite like Dublin at Christmas time; the illumination of the cityscape at night-time is a spectacular sight that adds to the festive atmosphere. Christmas is the time when families really make the city their own. This year there is so much they can do, from the traditional Christmas themed markets to the Christmas jumper world record attempt and culminating in a bigger and better New Year’s Festival celebration. However every year it is the wonderful array of Christmas lights and that special Dublin Town magic that draws the crowds.
Throughout the festive season the Dublin at Christmas campaign will be supporting various charities.
