Dublin’s Christmas Lights Switch off for another year!
- Fri 05 January, 2018
Christmas 2017 has come to an end and the Christmas Lights twinkling in over 30 streets across the city will switch off this Saturday, January 6th.
In October 2017, preparation began for the DublinTown team to hang and individually test over 1 million lightbulbs and fixtures. There was 30 streets to decorate, stretching across 4.5 kilometres of Dublin’s city centre, it took the team of 20 people, working throughout the night, over 300 hours to completely erect the lights over the city for the festive season.
The official launch of Dublin at Christmas took place on November 19th with the lights being switched on for the Christmas period through a Christmas parade. This year, Moore St received new lights to mirror the lights installed on Henry St in 2016.
Now that the festive period has come to an end, the lights will be switched off on Saturday, January 6th before the lights are deconstructed and put back into storage for another year!
We hope you enjoyed having the festive lights glisten in the city as much as we did!
