DublinTown welcomes launch of Town Centre renewal report
- Wed 26 April, 2017
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O’Connor today launched the Framework for Town Centre Renewal report today in Sligo. DublinTown welcomes the publication of this important document. In a time of growing competition from out of town centres and online retail the vitality of our towns and cities is more important than ever.
DublinTown CEO Richard Guiney has been a member of the Town Centre renewal working group and spoke today at the launch in Sligo about DublinTown’s experiences in this field and the international trends that are likely to impact on how our town centres function in the coming decades. The report recognises the important role that Business Improvement District’s like DublinTown have to play in town centre rejuvenation, stating that BID’s “can be a powerful tool for successful economic development, and can “create tangible projects that can make a real difference to towns, their residents, businesses and visitors.”
BIDs are governed under national primary legislation and it is encouraging to see additional BIDs like those in Sligo and Sandyford developing in recent years to improve their communities.
