Information on Easter Commemorations 2017

The Easter Commemorations for 2017 will revert back to those held in 2015 and previous years.
After great celebrations for the 100th Anniversary of the Easter Rising in 2016, the celebrations will be scaled back this year. The 101st anniversary of the 1916 Rising will take place outside the GPO on Sunday April 16th with the ceremony starting at 12noon for a 45min event. Temporary road closures will be in place on O’Connell St Lower and Upper from Sunday, April 16 5am to 3pm Sunday, April 16.
A traffic management plan will be in place:
Traffic Management Plan Southbound buses and taxis on Parnell Square East and Cavendish Row wishing to travel on O’ Connell Street to D’Olier Street will be diverted via Parnell Street, Cumberland Street, Marlborough Street, Rosie Hackett Bridge and Burgh Quay. Northbound traffic on O’ Connell Bridge wishing to access Parnell Street will be diverted via Eden Quay, Beresford Place and Gardiner Street Lower. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained.
Easter Monday
Meanwhile, On Easter Monday April 17th, Cruinniú na Cásca, a Creative Ireland initiative presented by RTÉ takes place across Ireland, but a special large-scale event is scheduled for Dublin. This free public event is in four zones in the city centre, Customs House Quay, Smithfield, St. Stephens Green South and Dublin Castle from 11am – 6pm, celebrating contemporary Irish culture and creativity through a rich variety of live music and dance, coding, art and music workshops, talks and tastings, readings and screenings and special events. The events are expected to draw up to 350,000 people to the city centre.
